A Tinubu Magistrates Court in Lagos on Tuesday slammed a bail of N50,000 on security guard, Samuel Moses, for allegedly stealing N11,000.
Magistrate Olaitan Ajayi, who gave the ruling, also Moses, 27, two sureties in like sum.
Moses, who lives at Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, is facing a charge of stealing.

He, however, denied the charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt.

Daniel Ighodalo, had told the court that the accused committed the offence at 11.00 a.m.

on April 28 at Ikoyi Branch of UBA Plc on Awolowo Way.

He said the guard stole the money from one Mr Mohammed Adamu under the pretext that he wanted to help him pay it into his son s account.

The complainant, who is an illiterate, had approached the accused in the banking hall to help him fill a teller for N11, 000 which he intended to send to his son.

Moses filled the amount on the teller in his own name instead of filling Adamu s son s name.

The accused also filled Adamu s name and phone number as details of the depositor.

After the accused had completed his fraudulent act, he gave the teller to Adamu who ignorantly went to pay the money into Moses account in the bank, Ighodalo said.

The prosecutor said the next day, Adamu went back to the bank to lodge a complaint that his son had yet to receive the money he sent to him the previous day.

Fortunately, the complainant had a copy of the teller in his possession.

When the bank officials inspected the details on the teller, they discovered that the accused had substituted his account details with that of Adamu s son.

Ighodalo said that the bank officials immediately blocked Moses account by placing a lien on it.

He added: On May 4, Moses tried unsuccessfully to withdraw money from his account and he went to report his inability to access the money in his account to the bank staff.

The staff, on noticing that his account was blocked due to fraud, alerted the authorities.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 285(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 recommends a three-year sentence for stealing.

The case has been adjourned to June 6 for mention.

Businessman Haji Yunis presided over malpractice a senior MP described as scandalous.

All courses on offer at a college exposed selling fraudulent security qualifications for cash have now been cancelled, the BBC has learned. Undercover researchers filmed Ashley Commerce College in Ilford sitting or forging exams for untrained students to become security guards or bodyguards. Some 20 courses have now been cancelled while authorities investigate.

About 90 would-be students have been refunded.

College director Haji Yunis told the BBC he was co-operating with inquiries.

Secretly filmed footage had showed Mr Yunis laughing about the scam he presided over. He told the researcher that for 1,200 he would bring you in the back door and fast track him to a bodyguard qualification without any training.

Mr Yunis told the researcher not to worry about the police. Fraudulent use of SIA cards in fact carries a maximum six-month prison sentence.

Both the exam board whose certification was fraudulently obtained, Industry Qualifications (IQ), and the Security Industry Authority (SIA) are investigating the college.

An audit is currently taking place, with the aim of ascertaining how many qualifications awarded at the college to enable security guards to become licensed by the SIA were bogus.

Jobseekers must sit mandatory exams to get an SIA card. A statement placed on Ashley Commerce College s website by IQ read: Following the BBC broadcast, IQ has been working with the regulators Ofqual and the SIA to formulate a plan for identifying learners affected by the fraud.

The statement said every student who obtained an SIA licence through the college may be affected. The college has been operating since 2010.

The statement added: Where we cannot guarantee that a qualification has not been affected by fraud, we are required to remove the qualification immediately and notify the Security Industry Authority. Mr Yunis would not say how many students qualifications were now being reviewed.

Keith Vaz MP, the chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, called the fraud a major scandal .

A Home Office spokesman has said any criminal behaviour would be addressed.

Rich Homie Quan reportedly assaulted a security guard at LIV nightclub in Miami, Florida early Monday morning (March 23).

WSVN¹¹ reports that Rich Homie Quan and his entourage tried to enter the club through the VIP entrance, however due to being at full capacity, security guard Christian Cajigas denied them entrance.

Joshua Hertz, the security guard s lawyer, said that the rapper believed to be above the law.

The club was at capacity, and he told him he had to go around the front and wait like everybody else, and that s when this rapper who thought that he was above the law, that he s not the average person and he could get in any way he wanted to, Hertz said.

After being turned down, Quan reportedly threatened to rush through the VIP entrance.

I m Rich Homie Quan, and I m a rich millionaire, expletive, Quan allegedly said. I m coming through these doors. I m with Flo Rida.

It was after this that Quan assaulted the security guard, with his entourage reportedly getting involved with the fracas too.

Cajigas was left with a bloodied lip and a damaged nose.

According to Cajigas lawyer, it was Rich Homie Quan who initiated the assault.

The rapper was the first person to throw a punch, he says.

He s the one that hit him right there in the nose.

According to police, Rich Homie Quan and his entourage then ran across Collins Avenue to an awaiting speedboat, in which they used as their getaway.

Johnny Okeoma, a Director of Tripleway Ltd, pleaded guilty at Barkingside Magistrates Court on 19 March 2015 to providing two unlicensed security operatives.

As a result of intelligence received, the SIA began making enquiries regarding the supply of unlicensed security operatives to Nicholson Court flats in London by two companies connected to Mr Okeoma.

In 2012, the contract for the provision of security industry services to Nicholson Court was taken over by Tripleway Ltd from Finetop Services Ltd .

The registered Director of Finetop was Pascal Okeoma whose husband is Johnny Okeoma, Finetop s Company Secretary.

From February 2012 to October 2013 Tripleway supplied two unlicensed security operatives to Nicholson Court Nathanial Quaye and Kojo Botwe.

Despite the dissolution of both companies by May 2014, the SIA was able to proceed against the individual directors.

Mrs Okeoma stated that she had no involvement regarding Finetop and that her husband had been a Shadow Director . Mr Okeoma was interviewed by SIA investigators in January 2015 and provided a pre-prepared statement which said that Nathanial Quaye had assured him that he had a valid SIA licence and that the man known as Kojo Botwe was known to him as David Arthur, and had been supplied by an agency .

David Arthur was not on the SIA s register of licence holders as having an active licence, and there was no evidence to show the agency ever existed.

Nathan Salmon, Investigations Manager said:

The SIA continually monitors intelligence received regarding non-compliance with the Private Security Industry Act 2001 . In this case, it was discovered that in running his business of nine years, Mr Okeoma demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory regime and was negligent regarding his obligation to ensure his staff held SIA licences and hence had been trained and vetted .

The regulations are in place to protect the public .

Mr Okeoma supplied unlicensed security guards to residential housing for potentially vulnerable people, including the elderly and single parent families . Illegal and conceivably dangerous negligence such as this is unacceptable and I welcome this conviction, achieved despite the dissolution of both companies by Mr Okeoma.

The District Judge adjourned sentencing pending a probation report to be heard on 9 April at Barkingside Magistrates Court.

Apparently, rapper Rich Homie Quan s growing fame and fortune can NOT gain him access to an exclusive Miami nightclub quite yet. And according to the Type Of Way emcee, that s just not cool.

Reports confirm that the 25-year-old singer got into a heated altercation with security guards at the city s popular hotspot LIV earlier this month.

Quan and his posse allegedly tried entering through VIP access, but the venue was too full.

A bouncer informed the group they would have to wait in the regular line. Quan was not happy with that, so he started name-dropping.

According to the infamous gossip webloid TMZ²¹², Quan shouted:

I m Rich Homie Quan and I m a rich millionaire, b*tch. I m coming through these doors.

I m with Flo Rida!

Apparently, security found that rather laughable, and continued ignoring his requests.

So the Atlanta native then attacked. Quan supposedly threw two punches landing in the one guard s face.

The unidentified victim received a broken nose and bloody lip, with one member of Quan s crew later hitting him in the back of the head for good measure.

But Quan s reckless behavior next is most bizarre.

The YG hypeman then fled the scene in a nearby speedboat conveniently waiting just across the street.

Following the rather shocking incident, the bodyguard filed an official police report. Quan and his crew are still on the loose.

Surprisingly, Quan has yet to mention anything on Twitter.

In a hearing Wednesday, California lawmakers will question the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services about issues including the collection of data on armed guard shootings and possible mental health examinations for applicants.

A newly released report³³¹ has confirmed many of the findings of Hired Guns, a Reveal/CNN investigation that uncovered lax oversight and regulation of the armed security guard industry.

The report will be the topic of a hearing³⁴² Wednesday in the state s Capitol. Lawmakers plan to question the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services about its oversight and enforcement practices, including some of the issues highlighted³⁵³ in Reveal s investigation.

Among the recommendations made by the Joint Oversight committees:

• The bureau should begin collecting and providing more information on security guard shootings, including the bureau s investigation of security guard shootings.

• The bureau should investigate the possibility of requiring mental health examinations for armed guard applicants.

• The bureau should evaluate whether current firearm training requirements are sufficient.

The report and hearing comes after Reveal found that regulators have failed to thoroughly investigate security guard shootings³⁶⁴ in the state. Reveal also found that California is among many states³⁷⁵ that do not require mental health evaluations for armed guards, and the state requires just six hours of range time before a guard can be posted on the job with a gun.

The report shed some light on other issues facing the state of California, including citations that have not kept pace with our financial times.

Currently, guards can only be fined $25 if they re caught working without firearms qualification cards, a penalty that was set more than 20 years ago.

LAHORE: The son of a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly was arrested on Tuesday after a case was registered against him at the Lahore North Cantonment Police Station.

Police action was taken in response to a complaint filed by a security guard regarding a scuffle that took place between the him and Ali Rohail Asghar on Monday night at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club.

Ali Rohail Asghar is the son of MNA Sheikh Rohail Asghar who was elected from NA-124 constituency of Lahore.

Mohammad Hussain, a security guard posted at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, submitted a complaint against Ali Rohail Asghar according to which the two had an exchange of harsh words on Monday night.

The complainant further said that after the heated argument, he was manhandled by the son of the ruling party MNA.

He also alleged that the accused had hurled threats at him.

Following the scuffle, the guards at the country club handed over the accused to police.

Officials at the North Cantonment police station early on Tuesday registered a First Information Report (FIR) of the incident and formally arrested the son of the PML-N legislator.

North Cantt Station House Officer Majid Bashir told Dawn that the accused will be dealt in accordance with the law.

Jose took the statement of former City Police Commissioner Jacob Job on an allegation that the latter tried to protect controversial businessman Mohammed Nisham in the case of murder of Chandrabose, security guard at Sobha City apartment complex. There were complaints that Mr.

Job had tried to protect Nisham by diverting the investigation in the case. He had also held a secret meeting with Nisham.

The statements of witnesses in the case were recorded at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here on Saturday.

The statements of fellow security guards Anoop, Asainar, and Ajeesh, who witnessed the incident, were recorded in a two-hour process.

DYFI workers injured

Ten Democratic Youth Federation of India activists were injured when a car ran into a protest march taken out by the organisation to the Peramangalam police station on Saturday demanding a fair probe in the murder case.

The DYFI district committee alleged that the police were protecting Nisham.

It s a miracle that the security guard, who is only identified as Rudy, didn t do anything more drastic.

On Friday evening, February 13, 39-year-old Rudy decided to return home early from work and walked in on his 35-year-old wife who was identified only as Lourdes naked and engaged in an intimate act with a 17-year-old boy in their bedroom at their home along Templora Street in Barangay Santolan, Malabon City, report Edd Reyes with Arlyn Saclote and Linell Celiz in Jornal Online.⁵⁷¹ Rudy immediately sought the assistance from barangay officials to arrest his wife and her lover.

Rudy later told the police that he had been hearing rumors that his wife was having an affair with a younger man.

The report noted: The 17-year-old boy was turned over to the local Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) while Lourdes was locked up in Malabon police cell.

Lourdes will most likely be facing adultery charges.

Guards at Western Australia s Yongah Hill immigration detention centre have had bottles thrown at them and been forced out of compounds in violent exchanges with convicted criminals awaiting deportation.

A guard at the camp, who did not want to be named, said detention officers, who had originally been hired to oversee asylum seekers, were not equipped to deal with criminal detainees and did not feel safe working there.

The union representing the guards at Yongah Hill, near the Wheatbelt town of Northam, about 90km north-east of Perth, was concerned they had received no extra training to deal with those detainees.

United Voice described Yongah Hill as a powder keg and warned it was a matter of time before someone was seriously injured.

The centre was set up in 2012 expressly to accommodate single adult male asylum seekers.

However, as revealed by the ABC yesterday⁶¹², it has been radically transformed from its original purpose.

It is now about half full of asylum seekers and half full of visa overstayers and foreign nationals who have been sentenced to 12 months or more in jail in Australia and now face deportation under section 501 of the Migration Act.

The guard at the centre said there had been confrontations as recently as this week.

We are not trained to be looking after violent offenders we are supposed to be looking after detainees.

We ve had incidents in which people have been physically hurt by some of the people they look after, the guard told the ABC.

They have forced all the officers out of their living areas, made them get out and they ve taken control, literally, of that living area.

They were using objects, so they were throwing anything they could at officers to get them out.

One of the managers was hit in the head with a bottle, they were using fire extinguisher hoses to force officers out.

Detainees inside the centre have said it has become much more aggressive and dangerous and they are sometimes scared to go outside their rooms at times when the detainees are all free to mix.

Some of the convicted criminals had brought with them the culture of the prison system, where guards were seen as dogs and the enemy, asylum seekers in the centre said.

The United Voice union represents about 150 of the 180 guards at Yongah Hill.

State secretary Carolyn Smith said they were security guards and not prison guards trained to deal with people who had serious criminal convictions.

She said Yongah Hill was not set up as a prison and there were concerns for the safety of both staff and detainees.

There are issues already at Yongah Hill with understaffing, Ms Smith said.

And when you add a much more complex and potentially more dangerous group of detainees, that really ups the level of safety issues at Yongah Hill.

Our members are really concerned because there was no consultation about these different types of detainees coming to Yongah Hill.

They d had no training in dealing with people who ve had criminal convictions.

There hadn t been new policies put in place.

When you add that to chronic understaffing and the fact Serco have cut their activity program over the weekend, you ve really got a bit of a powder keg up there.

Ms Smith said it was ridiculous asylum seekers were kept in the same centre as people convicted of serious offences.

It s not set up as a prison, people aren t trained as prison officers, they don t have the procedures you would have in a prison to deal with people who have a criminal record, she said.

The changes at Yongah Hill have angered some Northam residents who say they were told it would be a low security centre but are now concerned about convicted criminals escaping into the community.

But the Department of Immigration and Border Protection said none of the detainees were criminals.

No individual in immigration detention is considered criminal by law as none are currently serving a custodial sentence, it said in a statement.

If not for outstanding immigration issues they would be free to reside in Australian society.

Under its service provider contract with the department, Serco is required to ensure appropriate staff training to cater for the broad range of backgrounds present in the detainee population.

In a statement, Serco said it was committed to operating a safe, secure environment and providing a humane, dignified service for the people in our care .
