The Security Industry Authority (SIA), has formed a partnership with the charity Crimestoppers to reduce crime and provide an effective and anonymous means to report incidences of law breaking and dubious practise.

The SIA is responsible for regulating the private security industry. We are an independent body reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Our mission is to regulate the private security industry effectively; to reduce criminality, raise standards and recognise quality service.

We have two main duties to compulsory license individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry, and to manage the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.

SIA licensing covers manned guarding (including security guarding, door supervisors, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV), key holding and vehicle immobilising.

The partnership with Crimestoppers offers a 24/7 service, operated by people expert in dealing with anonymous callers and in assessing the source and value of information.

We analyse a wide range of information and develop our intelligence to guide and target enforcement actions, to ensure compliance with the law.

Examples of illegal activity reported via Crimestoppers includes security people working without a licence or the licence is fake or expired, companies not complying with regulations and private security operatives committing any other criminal offence.
